Continuing Education
Update: July 2021
For many years, Johnson & Wales University has offered a Continuing Education (CE) program that has helped individuals advance their education and career paths, whether it’s completing a degree or becoming a student to pursue a new field. As we emerge from our pandemic experience, a time marked by incredible change and challenge, we are dedicated to strengthening our focus on greater access to education, and using lessons learned to provide a strong, updated curriculum and delivery flexibility. Our goal is to offer more flexible options for different needs and schedules, and this is a step in that direction.
With this focus, we’re announcing that beginning in Fall 2022, JWU’s Continuing Education program will transition to an online instructional model. CE students who are currently enrolled and returning will still be able to access on-ground evening courses this fall and spring, with the full transition to online taking place in Fall 2022.
This decision was made in response to an increased demand for online education. Professional and continuing education students have asked for more convenient and effective options that fit their busy lives. This transition will allow JWU to more efficiently deliver the same high-quality curriculum to working adult students. This decision builds on a similar change JWU recently made to the university’s Educational Leadership doctor of education (Ed.D.) degree program, which is making the move to online as well.
This change also is part of a broader initiative which is currently in development to reposition the College of Online Education (COE) as the College of Professional Studies (CPS) to better reflect the high-quality, industry-responsive curricula we offer to students who are more established in their careers. A public announcement about the shift from COE to CPS will be made before the end of the year.
If you have any questions about how these changes may impact you, please review the comprehensive FAQ list below for more information.
Continuing Education FAQ
Why is JWU removing the option of Continuing Education?
This decision was made in response to an increased demand for online education. Professional and continuing education students have asked for more convenient and effective options that fit their busy lives. This transition will allow JWU to efficiently deliver the same high-quality curriculum to working adult students. This decision builds on a similar change JWU recently made to the university’s Ed.D. program, which has also transitioned to online.
When will CE courses no longer be offered?
Beginning Fall 2022, online courses will be required under the College of Online Education (COE). This is the beginning of a transition from COE to the College of Professional Studies (CPS) to better reflect the high-quality, industry-responsive curricula we offer to students who are more established in their careers. A public announcement about the shift from COE to CPS will be made before the end of this year.
Will my tuition change? What will it be?
We will maintain the CE tuition rate of $1,080 per 3-credit course for CE students who transition to online programs in COE in Fall 2021 and beyond, provided these students remain continuously enrolled in their online programs.
What happens to my tuition if I do not maintain continuous enrollment?
Tuition rate will increase to $1,485 per 3-credit online course.
Why should I consider attending JWU online?
There won’t be any programmatic change in the JWU student experience; the goal is to maintain the curriculum introduced but deliver it in a more flexible manner.
What if I have no experience in online learning?
Our mission is to make this online experience just as effective and resourceful as any in-person. We look forward to welcoming you with this new model and will have admissions officers prepared to answer your questions.
