Growing up in California, Professor Frances Burnett worked in many retail and grocery store bakeries and delis. When she started her career with Marriott International, she traveled and worked as a task force trainer, opening new hotels around the world. After becoming one of the first female Certified Master Bakers in America, a Certified Executive Pastry Chef with the ACF and a Certified Hospitality Educator, Burnett went on to earn a Master’s Degree from Columbia College and a Doctorate in Education in Instructional Leadership. Recently, she has received a Certificate in Non-Profit Management from Winthrop University and a Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Management from Cornell University. Burnett was the Past President and one of the founding executive board members of the Les Dames d’Escoffier, Charlotte Chapter.

Chef Burnett is the representative for the University Outcomes Assessment Committee liaison for the Charlotte Campus. She has taught her way through baking & pastry and culinary lab courses and is now teaching academic courses in the College of Food Innovation & Technology (CFIT).
