Jerelyn Pimentel
Assistant Professor
JWU Faculty Since 2018
After spending my childhood in upstate New York, I attended college at the University of Buffalo where I earned my Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering. I then moved to Rhode Island where I was employed as an engineer at General Dynamics Electric Boat Division. While employed there, I returned to college and earned an MBA in Operations Management. After 17 years, I left the engineering profession to pursue my doctoral in Educational Leadership. Upon completing my doctoral degree, I joined Johnson & Wales University as a mathematics instructor.

Teaching Interests
Real learning is, almost by definition, active learning; it requires confronting areas of missing
or incorrect knowledge and consciously constructing a broader, more accurate understanding. As a teacher, I provide my students with a structured framework to engage a course’s content and expand the limits of their knowledge and analytical abilities. I use active learning techniques to help students through this process, emphasizing a method in which students apply what they are learning in relevant, meaningful ways. I also seek to inspire my students with a passion for the material that will sustain them through the hard work that learning requires, and to connect their coursework to the world outside the classroom.
