PRESS RELEASE

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — October 5, 2020 – Following 38 confirmed off campus students testing positive for COVID-19 last week, Johnson & Wales University has been working collaboratively with the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) to mitigate the situation and prevent a widespread outbreak. At RIDOH’s urging, JWU will conduct a baseline test for its entire student campus community.

All JWU students who live on campus, commute to campus, or live in Rhode Island as remote JWU learners will be tested this week, starting on Wednesday, October 7. Beginning Monday, October 5, all Providence Campus classes will be fully remote with the exception of culinary and baking and pastry lab classes. At RIDOH’s request, students will be required to stay at home on campus or in their off-campus homes until the baseline testing is complete.

“The measures we are taking will help protect our campus community as well as those who live in the neighborhoods where our students reside,” said JWU Providence Campus President Marie Bernardo-Sousa, LP.D. in a Sunday night communication to JWU students, faculty and staff. “Let’s continue doing what needs to be done so we can finish the fall semester on track while keeping each other safe and healthy.”
