JWU-PRN Partnership

JWU is proud to partner with the Principal Residency Network (PRN), a program housed in the Center for Leadership & Educational Equity (CLEE) in Providence, Rhode Island.

The PRN is a residency-based building administrator certification program approved by the Rhode Island Department of Education.

For close to 20 years, the PRN has trained emerging PK-12 leaders in Rhode Island through an intensive residency-based building administrator preparation program. The mission of the PRN is to prepare aspiring leaders through a residency-based preparation route to certification to champion educational equity through leadership of innovative schools for the purpose of improving student achievement.

Through the PRN-JWU Partnership, prospective students can opt to apply to concurrently enroll in the two programs during the first year of JWU coursework. Interested students must apply and be accepted by both programs.

During the concurrent year, PRN residents will be enrolled in a special section of four JWU courses (two per semester) and will complete this coursework within the PRN setting. Students enrolled in the PRN partnership complete coursework in three years. Then, successful completion of the Comprehensive Assessment is followed by dissertation work in the fourth year.

Note that only the PRN program can recommend their completers for RIDE certification. This happens upon completion of the Principal Residency requirements, and is not subject to completing JWU’s Ed.D. degree.
